= Echidna Hübner, [1807] 1806: pl. [173] (TS. Echidna selene Hübner, [1807] 1806: pl. [173], by monotypy. Echidna Hübner is a junior homonym of Echidna Forster, 1788 (Pisces). There is no objective replacement name, but E. selene is conspecific with Plectropteron dianae Hutton, 1846, the type-species of Plectropteron Hutton, 1846; the latter is thus available for use as a subjective replacement name) (Fletcher & Nye 1982).
