Phalaena lutea Hufnagel, 1766: 412 (but included by Butler as lubricipeda Linnaeus, a misidentification) by subsequent designation by Kirby (1877): 431 (but cited as P. lubricipeda Linnaeus). by subsequent designation by Kirby (1877): 431 (but cited as P. lubricipeda Linnaeus). Butler (1875) included Phalaena lubricipeda Linnaeus, 1758: 505, in Spilarctia, and Kirby (1877), designated it as the type species. Kirby (1892: 227) indicated that the true lubricipeda Linnaeus, 1758, was the senior subjective synonym of Phalaena lubricipeda alba Hufnagel, 1776, and also of Bombyx menthastri [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775, (the type species of Spilosoma Curtis, 1825). Kirby (1892) indicated that Phalaena lubricipeda lutea Hufnagel, 1766, was the valid name for lubricipeda Linnaeus, 1758, var. beta, and for lubricipeda sensu Butler, 1875. Nye & Fletcher (1980) provided the above explantiona and recommended to send the case to the commission
