Remarks
<i>Sphecia fixseni</i> Leech [1889], described from Japan has been treated as a junior synonym of <i>P. contracta</i> described from Hindustan [India] by most of the authors including Hampson (1919), thus extending the distribution range of <i>P. contracta</i> upto Japan. However, Arita (1992) stated that the two taxa are undoubtedly distinct species, and revived the species status of <i>P. fixeni</i> thus delimiting the distributional ranges of both the species.
