Remarks

Brechlin (2015) split up the species into three separate subspecies based mainly on the extent of white/silver and carmine red pigmentation, namely Rhodoprasina callantha callantha (northern India, Nepal, Bhutan, and northern Myanmar), R. c. callsinica (China (Yunnan), northern Thailand, and northern Vietnam), and R. c. centrovietnama (central Vietnam and northern Laos).
