= Bombylia Hübner, [1822]: 10–13 (TS: Sphinx stellatarum Linnaeus, 1758) (by subsequent designation by Rothschild & Jordan (1903), but cited as Bombylia Kirby, an incorrect authorship. The genus group name included in a work rejected for nomenclatural purposes by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature, 1926 (Opinion 97): 19. The only included species is Sphinx stellatarum Linnaeus, 1758. A junior objective synonym of Macroglossum Scopoli, 1777).
= Macroglossa Ochsenheimer, 1816: 41 (an unjustified emendation of Macroglossum Scopoli, 1777)
= Psithyros Hübner, [1819] 1816: 132 (TS: Sphinx stellatarum Linnaeus, 1758) (by subsequent designation by Rothschild & Jordan (1903); a junior objective synonym of Macroglossum Scopoli, 1777).
= Macroglossa Boisduval, 1833: 226 (TS: Macroglossa milvus Boisduval, 1833, by subsequent designation by Fletcher & Nye (1982)). The genus is a junior homonym of Macroglossa Ochscnheimer, 1816: 41 (Sphingidae). There is no objective replacement name, but Macroglossa milvus is congeneric with Sphinx stellatarum Linnaeus, 1758, the type-species of Macroglossum Scopoli, 1777; the latter is thus available for use as a subjective replacement name).
